Florence Nalepka

Managing Director

Florence began her career in live events after graduating from Arizona State University. While at ASU, Florence was a 11-time NCAA All-American Swimmer, Olympic Trials Qualifier and Captain of the Women’s Swim Team.

Bringing 20 years of sales leadership from the hospitality and business event management sectors to the organization, Florence Nalepka founded CapSource Productions with a focus on driving opportunities for her clients. As a strong sales leader, she partners with clients to uncover business objects and aligns a program strategy to impact results that put the attendee experience as the primary focus.

From sponsorship activation, content development, media production, and more, she is her client’s biggest advocate. Florence brings an outstanding background with years of experience in sponsorships, tradeshows, corporate events and production services, in addition to her most important role as a mother to her five precious children.

Florence’s core beliefs are based on her unweathering dedication to building and nurturing relationships. Florence’s clients range from old friends to past colleagues to the person sitting next to her on her last flight. 

Florence lives in Greenwich, CT with her husband Kevin and children Michael, Katie, Jake, Tommy and Kevin II.

Horatio H. Sparkes is a distinguished figure in the Pension Plan and Financial Services Industries, boasting a remarkable career spanning over three decades.

Since 2019, Mr. Sparkes has also held the pivotal role of Director of Business Development at APEX (formerly Context365 and Context Summits), a position he continues to excel in to this day. In this capacity, he spearheads the innovative CAPIntro program, leveraging a cutting-edge SaaS platform. This powerful tool employs a sophisticated algorithm to facilitate the optimal pairing of alternative investment fund managers with allocators. The algorithm ranks potential matches based on percentage-matched best-fit results, a process that maximizes synergy and efficiency within the industry.

Additionally, Mr. Sparkes orchestrates annual Investment conferences nationwide, a testament to his commitment to fostering collaboration and innovation within the alternative investment space. These events serve as a hub for industry leaders, providing a platform for dynamic exchanges and strategic partnerships.

During his tenure at Geronimo Investment Management from 2017 to 2019, Mr. Sparkes held the position of Director, contributing considerably to this boutique Infrastructure fund specializing in investments in renewable energy projects encompassing wind and solar initiatives across North America. His key responsibilities included spearheading fund marketing, driving new business development, and fostering strong investor relations.

Prior to this, from 2008 to 2017, Mr. Sparkes made significant contributions at The Yucaipa Companies, a prestigious multi-billion LBO private equity firm chaired by former US President Bill Clinton, with Ron Burkle as the managing partner. As a Principal, he played a pivotal role in business development, deal origination, and ensuring exceptional client service and investor relations.

Between 2001 and 2006, Mr. Sparkes served as the NYC Deputy Comptroller for Pensions, representing NYC Comptroller William C. Thompson Jr. in various capacities, overseeing the fifth largest public pension plan portfolio in the United States and the 15th largest globally, with assets totaling over $120 billion. He was appointed as the trustee to represent the Comptroller on key pension funds including the NYC Employees' Retirement System, The NYC Teachers' Retirement System, The NYC Police Pension Fund, and the NYC Fire Pension Fund. He also assumed a key advisory role in the Actuarial Audit Committee, contributing his expertise to critical pension matters. Additionally, he was appointed to represent the Comptroller as a trustee on the Defined Contribution 403(b) NYC Teachers Tax Deferred Annuity Plan and the 457 NYC Deferred Compensation Plan.

In 1994, Mr. Sparkes assumed the role of Executive Director of the New York City Board of Education Retirement System, orchestrating substantial growth in fund assets from $900 million to well over $2 billion during his tenure. His outstanding leadership paved the way for further success, leading him to join Comptroller Thompson in March 2001.

Before his tenure in the retirement system, Mr. Sparkes dedicated 16 years to the Division of Business and Administration at the NYC Department of Education, holding various crucial positions including Director of Accounting, Director of Finance, and Administrator of Business Affairs.

Mr. Sparkes is an alumnus of the City University of New York at Queens College, with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Accounting and Information Systems. He holds a certificate in Pension Funds and Investment Management from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, further bolstering his professional credentials. His designation as a Certified Government Financial Manager underscores his expertise in the field.

Acknowledged for his exceptional contributions, Mr. Sparkes has been honored with induction into the Wall Street Hall of Fame and has received numerous accolades within the Pension and Investment industry, a testament to his unwavering commitment and expertise in the field.
